Bath DAY 2

Ok, so for some reason I had it in my head that Bath is York. So much so, that I kept calling it York, despite the corrections of Phil. Even though there are ancient Roman Baths here that are so famous that the whole town is called Bath, I just for some unknown reason keep calling it York. York, on the other hand is another city in England that I wanted to visit but we will have to go there maybe at the end of the trip since we don't have time right now. Anyway, so I bought bus tickets on our last day in Bath, loaded up our bags from our comfy hostel, then proceded to the station. Once there, we asked where the gate was for our bus. "You can't catch that from here," the polite clerk lady told me, glancing at my ticket. "Where do I get it?" I ask confused. "...well, York." Damn! I had bought tickets from York to Edinburgh!!! Luckily we were able to exchange the ticket and pay only the fare difference for what ended up being a harrowing journey to Edinburgh... but anyway, in the mean time we got a few more hours in Bath.

Outside the Roman Baths Museum

So we are too poor to afford entry into lots of cool museums, like this one about the ancient Roman Baths that give the town it's namesake. This is us taking a picture from outside the walls. You'll just have to trust us that there are some really cool ancient Roman baths down there!

One of my favorite encounters in Bath was with a local woman who, when we asked if the above picture church was the famous Bath Abbey, she said, "No," pointed down the street and said "It's that one. Much prettier isn't it?" LOL. Actually they are BOTH amazing, lady!!

Bath, England

Beautiful Bath. It was a breath of fresh air to get out of busy, unfriendly London. We got our first peek of the English countryside. So green! So... English! Everything looks just like the movies.

Bath Abbey
March 4th

Bath is like a step back in time. Everything was built in the 19th century or earlier. The town itself dates back to Roman times. We got to take a free walking tour of the city which was really informative. We learned all about the architecture and history of the baths. It's the only town around with a natural mineral hot spring.

Stonehenge
March 4

Included in our hostel stay was a trip to THE stonehenge! On this lovely sunny day the stones were looking quite tall and mysterious. The wind was wicked and they don't let you get close to the thing but you do get an informative audio tour. Our bus driver pointed out a lot of neat stuff on the drive out there as well. England is so flat! There aren't any mountains or ocean. Weird for the cheap campers...

I gotta say, the food in the UK so far is God Awful. Everything is bland and greasy. If I have to eat another cheeseburger I may just hurl. So tonight, instead of going to the annual Bath Literature Fest's Emily Dickinson event (which I was really excited about) I decided I HAD to have something with vegetables and non-greasy meat. So we ventured through the town and found Jamie's Italian restaurant. Which just so happened to be Jamie Oliver, the NAKED CHEF's Italian restaurant!!!! Phil and I ordered the caesar salad and pasta parrarde and both ate the best meal of our trip. The cost was a mere $33, not bad for such superb food. Our vision has cleared, our muscles less weary... we are now planning the next leg of our trip.

I already have so many new topics for my writing and new perspectives to ponder. The biggest downer is being exhausted and also the insane costs of everything.
