When in Rome.....

....Enjoy the weather! That's what we are doing. We arrived in Rome this morning after a sleepless night spent in our crowded, smelly Dublin hostel. The flight was actually uneventful-- a welcome change from our track record of mechanical issues, burning oil, blasting heat and other harrowing issues that have plagued our plane rides this year.

The first thing we did upon arriving in the city is make a bee line for the nearest food place. We found one and stuffed ourselves--- good food, finally!! Our spirits are lifted- emotionally, climate-ly, culturally, and mentally. We love Rome so far. It's like a fog has been lifted from our minds! The UK and Ireland were so dreary compared to the sunshine and passion of the Italians.

While waiting for our hostel to finish being ready we took a stroll down to the Vatican, which is literally about 6 blocks away. We didn't have time to go in yet, but that's on the agenda for tomorrow. St. Peter's Basilica is huge! No pictures or movie scenes have ever done it justice.

We spent the rest of day walking around the beautiful streets of Rome, taking in the sights. It reminds us a lot of Aix-En-Provence and that part of France that we visited last year.

Every building is like a work of art. There are so many statues, and ancient structures! And we haven't even gotten to the Coloseum part of town.

I'm sure we will have many, many, MANY pictures uploaded by the end of tomorrow. We have three days here and I intend to jam pack them with tourist-y site-seeing.
